Garage & Equipment

The Workbench

When I retired, we moved from Los Angeles to South West Riverside County, Ca. Half our garage was still full of boxes, pieces of furniture, etc., when I bought the Nova. Not the enviroment to be welding in. A large scale clean up was started. One piece of furniture, a 6 foot side table, was utilized as a makeshift workbench. Two 3' wire racks, to hold parts, 2 tool boxes, & more boxes, filled up the long wall of the garage. Once I could see the floor, on the other side of the garage, the rearraging began. The wire racks were moved, to front of the garage. The "work bench", tool boxes, & other stuff was moved, to make room for the newbench. Here's some shots of the construction.

Farewell 6' work bench...

...hello 20' workbench

A thing of beauty

Electrical

Once the workbench was finished, it was time to power up. The houses, in our development, were not designed for garage hobbiest. One 15 amp circuit with a single outlet box, for the sprinklers, a double outlet for the TV, & one double outlet, for the whole garage. So I had 4 new ciruits put in Two 20 amp circuits, for the workbench outlets, one 20 amp circuit, for the other side of the garage, & a 240 v circuit, for my new compressor.

Two of the 4 double gang boxes for the workbench, my new Harbor Frieght vice, a brake rotor off an IndyCar, & part of a door skin I cut off a cop car...when I worked in a bodyshop

The Toolbox

My old toolboxes were just that, old. I bought the first pair, in 1978 & the other 2, in the 80's. So, I decided to treat myself to a new toolbox. After looking around, I found what I think is probably the best deal on the market, today. A 52" Huskey 15 drawer tool cabinet, from Home Depot (Model # H52CH6TR9HD). It cost $798 (+ tax & delivery, still under $900) but worth every penny. It's made of 18 gauge steel, soft close drawer slides, 37,421 cu. in. of storage, 8 110v outlets & 4 USB ports. It even has a bottle opener. I had to cut a hole, in my workbench, for it but it was worth it.

It's MASSIVE

Power strip with 4 outlets & 2 USB ports. There's another, on the other side

Because the workbench was where the bottle opener bolted to the toolbox, I had to mount it to the bench

It looks good now but that won't last long. It'll be a mess in no time

Problem solved, thanks to Ernst Manufacturing Socket Boss Twist Lock Socket Trays

Remember the outlet & TV cable, I found earlier? My Samsung 50" TV is the biggest garage TV in the neighborhood

Car Cart

I told my wife, I would make space, in the garage for her new car. I had to figure out how to move around the car, to work on it. I had first thought about wheel dollies but if I pull the rear end I couldn't move it around. A rotisserie would have been great but I don't have the room. While looking into it, I found & bought an AutoTwirler Body Cart Elite. It has 8" polyurethane over cast iron wheels, making it very easy for me to roll it around the garage by myself.

It was a chore to get the car high enough to set it up & I still need to raise it up, in the back, to level it out
