Let the constuction begin
Note above the tool box, a plug & cable TV, I found while moving boxes
Makeshift work bench
Farewell 6' work bench...
...hello 20' workbench
A thing of beauty
Once the workbench was finished, it was time to power up. The houses, in our development, were not designed for garage hobbiest. One 15 amp circuit with a single outlet box, for the sprinklers, a double outlet for the TV, & one double outlet, for the whole garage. So I had 4 new ciruits put in Two 20 amp circuits, for the workbench outlets, one 20 amp circuit, for the other side of the garage, & a 240 v circuit, for my new compressor.
Two of the 4 double gang boxes for the workbench, my new Harbor Frieght vice, a brake rotor off an IndyCar, & part of a door skin I cut off a cop car...when I worked in a bodyshop
My new 60 gallon compressor
My old toolboxes were just that, old. I bought the first pair, in 1978 & the other 2, in the 80's. So, I decided to treat myself to a new toolbox. After looking around, I found what I think is probably the best deal on the market, today. A 52" Huskey 15 drawer tool cabinet, from Home Depot (Model # H52CH6TR9HD). It cost $798 (+ tax & delivery, still under $900) but worth every penny. It's made of 18 gauge steel, soft close drawer slides, 37,421 cu. in. of storage, 8 110v outlets & 4 USB ports. It even has a bottle opener. I had to cut a hole, in my workbench, for it but it was worth it.
It's MASSIVE
Power strip with 4 outlets & 2 USB ports. There's another, on the other side
Because the workbench was where the bottle opener bolted to the toolbox, I had to mount it to the bench
It looks good now but that won't last long. It'll be a mess in no time
Problem solved, thanks to Ernst Manufacturing Socket Boss Twist Lock Socket Trays
Remember the outlet & TV cable, I found earlier? My Samsung 50" TV is the biggest garage TV in the neighborhood
I told my wife, I would make space, in the garage for her new car. I had to figure out how to move around the car, to work on it. I had first thought about wheel dollies but if I pull the rear end I couldn't move it around. A rotisserie would have been great but I don't have the room. While looking into it, I found & bought an AutoTwirler Body Cart Elite. It has 8" polyurethane over cast iron wheels, making it very easy for me to roll it around the garage by myself.
It was a chore to get the car high enough to set it up & I still need to raise it up, in the back, to level it out
