My Hobby Room

Having out grown my improvised work bench, I decided to expand my work area. We have a guest room that is used for everything except guest, for the most part. Seeing as there are several Hotels in the area, I found the guest room as the perfect place for a hobby room. So, with my wife's blessing, I set out to build a proper hobby room. I started out cleaning every thing out of the room. I bought a hollow core interior door, at the local home improvment center, screwed it to 3 oak stools that were just taking up space in the garage, & painted it gloss white.

Here's the desk set up with work light, organizer trays, phone, & cable TV

Two oak bar stools hold up this side, with one on the other end

Drawers & other storage

Closet converted for kit storage

All the way to the ceiling

...converted back into a cabinet...

...and used to store more kits

Clear plastic boxes replace old cardboard parts boxes, organized, & labeled

It doesn't take long to make it look like a proper work bench

What a mess! I have decided to build a new work bench. The hollow core door has it's limitations. It was time to go. A trip to Home Depot & $80 later, I brought home 2 melamine sheets, 24 inches wide, 8 feet long, 3/4 inch thick, & some 2X2s.

Now it goes wall to wall (115 inches vs. 81 inches) & I can reach all the way to the back. A 24" monitor, with HDMI imput, can toggle between a cable box & a PC, plus a 17" monitor to surf the web while watching TV. It's a wonder I can get any model work done.
